In a category with some of television’s favorite dramas, it was “The Affair” that won the award for Best Drama Series at the 2015 Golden Globes on Sunday night.
The freshman Showtime series bested “Downton Abbey,” “Game of Thrones,” “The Good Wife” and “House of Cards” in a year in which no competing nominees had ever won the category.
Created by Sarah Treem and Hagai Levi, “The Affair” tells the story of a budding extramarital relationship from the distinct perspectives of its two participants. The show wrapped up its freshman season on Showtime in December, and has been renewed for 10 more episodes, to air in 2015.
Last year, smash AMC hit “Breaking Bad” went home with the title.
It was one of two awards won by “The Affair.” Star Ruth Wilson won Best Actress in a Television Series – Drama.
