Ruth Wilson won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Drama for her work on “The Affair.”

Wilson plays Alison Lockhart on the Showtime drama, which finished up its first season in December. Alison is one half of the extramarital relationship at the heart of the show, whose story is told from the different perspectives of each if its participants. The actress was a surprise winner on Sunday, beating out Claire Danes, Viola Davis, Julianna Margulies and Robin Wright for the title. Wilson was previously nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Mini-Series or TV movie in 2006 for her work in “Jane Eyre.”

Earlier in the evening, “The Affair” took home the award for Best Drama Series.
