Gwyneth Paltrow may have introduced us to the concept of “conscious uncoupling” when she and Chris Martin separated last year, but even she admits that co-parenting isn’t always easy.
During her keynote interview at the BlogHer conference in New York City last Friday, the actress talked about raising kids Apple and Moses with the Coldplay frontman, even when the exes aren’t necessarily seeing eye-to-eye.
“It’s’s been hard, and you know, we’ve gone through really difficult times with it but we’ve always said these children are our priority,” she said “What that really means is, ‘Even though today, you hate me and you never want to see me again, we’re going to brunch, ’cause it’s Sunday and that’s what we’ll do!’ You know, like, ‘That’s what’s happening!’ The children are our commitment.”
When it comes to post-divorce parenting, the actress has certainly put her money where her mouth is. This year, the former couple, whose divorce was finalized in April, spent Valentine’s Day at the beach with the kiddos — and in April, they headed to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for a family vacation.
At the BlogHer conference on Friday, Paltrow gave props to Martin for his part in making the transition easier for everyone.
“He’s a great dad and so, I feel lucky that we both, along the way, have been able to really put down our own stuff while we’re together with the family and that we make it a priority to be together so that the transition for the children wasn’t, you know, as brutal as it could be,” she said.
Gwyneth and Chris: proof positive that you can play nice — and get brunch! — with your ex for the kids’ sake.
